Having been a bookseller for many years of my earlier life, I do find I get an extra special twinge of excitement when one of my images is used on a book. I’ve had quite a few author photos appear on back covers, but getting a front cover is ace!
Well this weekend sees the publication of a new novel for young people by Livi Michael. It’s a powerful re-imagining of the most famous witch trial in English history, suitable for ages 9+. The book is published by Litfest, with whom I have had a long connection. Litfest commissioned me to take the portrait of a young girl to represent the lead character of the story. The original brief was for the image of the young girl to be rather more in silhouette than has turned out but I do love what Morph Films have done with it for the final cover design. The use of the Pendle moorlands within the image is superb.
Malkin Child is published on the 18th August 2012 to coincide with the 400 year anniversary of the Lancashire Witch Trials.
As the Lancashire Reads Book for 2012, Malkin Child is available to borrow from all Lancashire libraries.
This beautifully produced hardback book is available to purchase priced at £9.99 plus £2.00 p&p. Please help support Litfest by buying directly from them.
