Oh dear I really need to get on top of this blogging mullarkey!
Way back in May (!) I was asked by Francesca at the NICE Bar and Restaurant in The Storey, Lancaster if I could photograph the opening ceremony and festivities taking place as Lancaster Castle opened it’s gates up to the public. NICE were opening a new cafe in the grounds of the castle and all manner of fun stuff was to be taking place.
Lancaster Castle has been a working prison until just last year and in my time at Lancaster Litfest I had occasion to visit inside the prison (as part of some creative writing projects) a few times. It would be great I thought to see what changes had taken place and what plans for the future held.
The sun came out in grand style and by 9.30 the Castle forecourt was already packed with locals, tourists and even a film crew waiting for the opening by the High Sheriff of Lancaster. It came as quite a surprise when the opening was heralded by cannon fire and a volley of musket shots! the grey smoke fading away to the sight of regimental guards in costume. Once inside we enjoyed sword fights, falconry, period music and kids activities and of course some tip top tea and cakes!
Here’s some of the pictures from the day…
Time too for some NICE team shots…
